Helen Braddy

July 29, 1915-Sept. 2, 2008

Age: 93

Residence: Greeley

Tribute: Helen Beatrice Braddy was born in Greeley to Henry B. and Ollie (Jones) McMillen. She was educated in Greeley and graduated from Greeley High School and Colorado State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Colorado. She taught second grade at District 14 in Commerce City for 34 years.

An ardent Broncos fan and self-proclaimed "Sofa Spud," Mrs. Braddy was featured in the Denver papers and on Denver television channels for planning her lessons around the Denver Broncos football organization. She also arranged for the football coaches and team players to visit her school to meet her students.

Mrs. Braddy also taught dance and was an accomplished violinist. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Zeta Chapter and the American Association of University Women.

After living in Denver most of her adult life, Mrs. Braddy moved to Greeley in 2007 to be near her remaining family.

Mrs. Braddy died Tuesday in Greeley.

Survivors: A nephew, Jack O'Brien and wife Cindy of Squaw Valley, Calif.; and cousins, Dean and Shauna Holzmeister of Evans, Ronald and Brenda Holzmeister of Gilcrest, JoAnn and Dave Gifford of Kersey, Betty Jo and John Welling of Missouri; and special cousins, Matthew Holzmeister and wife Gina of Lemoore, Calif., and Ann Golightly and husband Joshua of JFC Brunssum, Netherlands.

Preceded in death by: Her parents; her sister, Peggy O'Brien, and brother-in-law, Collin O'Brien; and a special cousin, Zelda Holzmeister.

Services: Family graveside services, 11 a.m. today at Fairmount Cemetery, Denver.

Doris McGehee

Jan. 20, 1931-Sept. 1, 2008

Age: 77

Residence: Greeley

Tribute: Doris Arlene McGehee was born in Galeton to James Thomas and Hazel Sophia (Koenig) Frantz. She was raised and educated in Galeton and graduated from Galeton High School in 1950.

On May 14, 1950, she married James Alfred McGehee Jr. in Eaton. They moved to Grover, where they ranched and farmed.

Mrs. McGehee cooked at Pawnee School in Grover for many years. In October 1976, they moved to Greeley. Mr. McGehee died Jan. 24, 1984.

A member of Greeley Christian Church, Mrs. McGehee worked at the nursery at the church for several years. She also worked in the bakery at Toddys grocery store and then cooked at the Evans Senior Center for many years.

Mrs. McGehee loved and enjoyed caring for children. She loved to cook, especially for family and friends. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Colorado Rockies games, Colorado Avalanche, Denver Broncos, and Minnesota Vikings. She loved pets, especially her Corgi dog named "Whisper."

Mrs. McGehee died Monday at Kenton Manor, Greeley.

Survivors: Her daughter, Colleen A. McGehee of Greeley; two sons, Raymond A. McGehee and wife Cynthia of Greeley and Alan E. McGehee and companion Paula McFarren of Denver; and a grandson, Stephen Knox of Greeley.

Preceded in death by: Her husband and four half brothers, Perle, Dallas, Kenna and Fred Frantz.

Services: 10:30 a.m. today at Stoddard Funeral Home, Greeley.

Interment: Eaton Cemetery

Ruth Schwartzkopf

Dec. 5, 1928-Aug. 20, 2008

Age: 79

Residence: Montrose, formerly of Greeley

Tribute: Ruth Katherine Schwartzkopf was born in Lincoln, Neb., where she grew up with her two older sisters, Marie and Clara, and a half brother, Richard. She was born to Richard and Katherine (Knaub) Korell, who were German-Russian immigrants.

In May 1947, at the age of 18, she married Duane Cade in a courthouse ceremony in Lincoln. She gave birth to two daughters, Cindy (now Cindy Groskopf of Montrose) in 1948 and Vicki (now Vicki Rogers of Homosassa, Fla.) in 1950. The family moved to Scottsbluff, Neb., in 1963. The couple divorced in 1971.

In July 1973, she married Carl Schwartzkopf, a carpenter. They lived in Scottsbluff, Neb., until moving to Greeley in 1986. Mr. Schwartzkopf died in 1990.

In 1993, Mrs. Schwartzkopf moved to the Montrose area. About a year ago, she became a resident of San Juan Living Center where she lived until her death Wednesday, Aug. 20.
