Where is the moral outcry against sexual abuse of children?

I writing in response to an article from a wire report published on Aug. 26, regarding a San Antonio couple who was accused of trying to trade sex with the woman's 5-year old daughter for an apartment, a used car and child care for her 10-month-old daughter.

First of all, I am repulsed by child pornography or any other sexual abuse of a child. When I read stories of this nature, I am sickened by the thought of the effects on the life of a child who has been exploited in this way. Secondly, I am disgusted by the thought of anyone, parent or "customer," who would take advantage of a child in this fashion. It is dead wrong. There is no excuse or justification.

Where is the moral outcry against such abuses? This is NOT OK! The fact that this kind of activity is being conducted is an indication that we as a society have sunk to the depths of depravity.

Who answers such ads? Thankfully, someone, according to the article, tipped off the FBI about the text message advertising this little 5-year-old girl's body was for sale. I was encouraged that the FBI followed up on this tip, and that one of the adults responsible for this heinous act has been charged. My hat is off to the person who reported this. Thankfully, there are laws in place to hold the perpetrators accountable.

Now, if we could just hear more moral outrage from concerned citizens, I would be encouraged that we still care about our children. They are not our possessions to be used, abused and exploited. Children are our most precious gift. Let us be very careful about nurturing them responsibly, and let us be very vigilant about those who don't. It matters.

Which will win election, love or hate?

Unfortunately when it's election time, the hate-filled tirades from the "Religious Right" start. It is a shame that they can't discuss the issues. They had rather hate and condemn all of those who do not agree with them.

They need to put the nation as a whole before their own personal opinions. Will destroying "gays" and those poor parents who between themselves and their doctor decide to abort an ill baby lower the gas prices, slow spending in Washington, end a war, bring our troops home without destroying Iraq and so many other things some candidates are advocating?

Why are the Democrats in charge of the House and Senate here and in Washington? The people voted against the "hate mongers," plain and simple.

They are always quoting the Bible, so here goes: "Love your enemies and pray for them." It is God's decisions, not yours, to decide what is right and wrong.

Love versus hate -- which will win.

The Tribune should know better

I thought The Tribune would know better!

The Whing-ding going on in Denver this week is the Democrat Convention -- not the Democratic Convention.

I am sure it will be conducted in the democratic manner, but it will be the Democrat Convention as an equal to the Republican Convention.

Now you will have to explain to our English-learning Latino friends the real meaning of Democrat and democratic.

Wilma Locke, Greeley
